Hi. My name is Andy Coyne. I am a Liverpool Personal Trainer, based in South Liverpool where I live with my wife, two young sons and two labradors. I have been involved in sports coaching for many years. My fitness background began when I took up rowing in 2006 at Mersey Rowing Club in Liverpool, where I now also volunteer as a British Rowing coach. From there I took up running and cycling for cross training, which eventually became competitive through triathlons. Ultimately, I trained for and completed my first Ironman at Bolton in 2018. I also enjoy strength & conditioning, yoga and trail running, which developed into CaniCross (cross country running with dogs).
I love the feeling that comes from knowing I'm helping other people achieve their goals. I know first hand how difficult it can be to lose weight and become more healthy, but I know that with regular exercise and good nutrition you can enjoy improved fitness of mind and body. All this will allow you to live a fuller, healthier, happier and possibly even a longer life. My fitness background hasn't always been too good though. At University I did what so many people do - I gave up sport, ate all the wrong types of foods, drank too much and became overweight. After Uni I got a job working in an office in the centre of Liverpool and whilst I tried going to the gym and taking fitness classes, I never really got anywhere. My weight went up and down but I never seemed to lose a significant enough amount of weight to feel good about myself.
I distinctly remember the day I decided to "get fit". I went running along the promenade at Otterspool. I must have run for about five minutes before getting chest pains, giving up and walking home. I didn't run again for two years, it was that demoralising!
It wasn't until I learned to enjoy sport that I started to get somewhere. I went through the long, drawn out process of teaching myself how to run, how to exercise efficiently and how to make progress with my training. I read books, looked at websites, watched videos and slowly taught myself what I needed to do. It was after achieving these results myself that I decided I'd love to help other people achieve them for their own. That's the main reason I trained as a gym instructor and personal trainer and set up my own business to run Personal Training in Liverpool.
