When it comes to exercise, children don't think about health and weight loss like adults do, they think in terms of fun and games, which is exactly how it should be. Children who focus on playing games and having fun are more likely to be fit and healthy, with reduced body fat. When children participate in school or sports clubs, as well as taking part in physical games outside formal settings they are improving their health and wellbeing.
Recent research in the British Journal of Sport Medicine suggests that only 33% of boys and 21% of girls aged 5 - 16 actually get the recommended level of physical activity, which is an hour each day. With the growing evidence that the inactivity and sedentary lifestyle of 21st Century is causing increased health problems, these children spending 7-8 hours inactive each day is of great concern to all. It is a sad fact that the amount of time children spend in physical education and activity while at school is neither monitored nor known by any educational authority. And that there is no statutory minimum requirement for schools to devote a specific amount of time to PE is truly shocking.
As a qualified primary school teacher, formerly teaching PE and running lunchtime/ after school sport and fitness clubs, Andy Coyne of Improve Personal Training is well placed to provide Kids’ Fitness and Kids’ Personal Training sessions.
